London New Designers Show

A great opportunity has arisen for myself to be part of the new designers exhibit in London this summer, representing Coventry university along side some of my fellow classmates. The exciting news came with responsibility, a priority team organized by our tutor to help collect work and gather information from others in class to be circulated and sent to exhibit also. I chose my typography project to be used to represent my work and promote myself as a graphic designer, I felt it best represented my style and acted as an intelligent project to spark conversations with employers for myself. This project will sit along side my personal information from the new CV I have created in preparation for graduating university.

With the degree show so close, I have begun the next steps of designing my business cards, online portfolio and personal website, CV and personal statement to help promote myself. I have also begun forming my outward facing portfolio to sit in the exhibition and eventually be taken down to London to be exhibited there. I will later release more information on the exhibit in time and reveal my website when published.

Fundraising Update ! The doughnut sale within hub was great! Some good use came from my Inflatable pool doughnut once again drumming up interest and humor throughout the day.

UCC Coffee Packaging

I have been working hard lately with competition briefs, organizing our upcoming degree show and research and writing my dissertation. I have been working towards completing the UCC coffee brief and creating new packaging and extra pieces to fit with my concepts.

I wanted to create a minimal, contemporary feel to the coffee packaging and re brand look to create a well presented and connection to other projects in my portfolio. Set within the brands guidelines in the brief, a friendly, educated and traveled tone of voice was required. I wanted to focus on the destinations and flavors of each blend within its packaging make up and concept to for the brand image also. Each blend's packaging has illustrations of coffee plants and leaves representing the tastes notes present and where the coffee was grown. With each packet a informative booklet is attached for the consumer and coffee connoisseurs detailing the particular blends taste notes, destination of coffee beans, storage and preparation methods. The brief given was to bring this coffee out on the shelves and inside the homes of the public instead of hidden away behind counters of coffee shops and cafes. To resolve this problem I created a poster campaign promoting directly to the public with a friendly tone of voice injecting humor into the sales technique. The idea for the posters are to sit within or outside coffee houses with already serves UCC coffee and other products along with coffee cup wraps. All items can run for a short or long period of time to help promote the product without taking too much attention from business and can be easily disposed of.

Our digital presence for the degree show has been gradually building and growing over the past few weeks. We now hold a Facebook Event, Facebook Page along with other social media accounts including Instagram and Twitter. The PR team and digital team have worked together to create an amazing website linking to the brand identity we have created.

An update with the fundraising efforts! We are currently in the progress of planning some upcoming events such as a gaming console tournament, a Karaoke night both held within our own studio to save on costs. The most recent event coming up is a Krispy Kreme doughnut sale taking place within the hub, which I have been set the task of creating a poster and content for social media accounts advertising the event. I wanted the poster to feel fun and playful and somehow connected to our degree show, I feel I have achieved this with my use of colour, language and my new found skills in creating illustrations within illustrator.

Portfolio

Whilst still working on projects from this year and building up the majority of my portfolio, I have been focusing on how I want my work to feel as a collective in my portfolio. I wanted almost a house style guide to create a personal style for myself, yet give each brief and projects its personal identity. My big design module has been running along side all others this year and given a wide range of different projects to choose from including branding, campaigns, typography, packaging and interior installations. A big factor in my reasoning for choosing projects that I have, is that I felt my portfolio lacked a broad range of projects incorporating in particular packaging and interior.

In the past few years of studying I have found a huge passion for Interior design, I have begun projects of my own and would like to explore this area of design practice more. I have been given a possible opportunity working with an interior design company which employs graphic designers and artists creating artwork. For this potential role I have adapted my portfolio and projects and included the interior spaces and exhibit installations I have complied from this year.

With our graduate show fast approaching and with plans to be part of the new designers exhibit in London, I have begun adjusting my personal branding and outward facing materials. These being my creative CV, business card, printed portfolio and online portfolio / personal website with an applied style to all. I have been thinking of unique ways to present my portfolio and CV together for potential clients and employers, and have these sit alongside my professional portfolio. I want to print my favorite projects onto postcards and have these as a mini portfolio to hand out and give to opportunities.
